"for far too many women pregnancy and birth is something that happens to them rather than something they set out consciously and joyfully to do themselves." -

Sheila Kitzinger

The birth of your baby is a day you will remember forever. And the months leading up to the birth are spent navigating your emotions, fears, hopes, and dreams. One of the things I love most about being a midwife is helping people resolve their fears so they can arrive at their birth choices from a place of strength, preference, and confidence.

My first pregnancy was not even close to a positive experience. I was scared out of my mind about what labor and birth would be like. Like many of the women I serve now, I had heard only the scariest things about birth. I was so pleasantly surprised — the birth of my first baby changed everything! It was powerful. Amazing. Bonding. Transformative.

My 2nd birth was even better. This time I hired a doula and took a great childbirth class. The impact of those 2 decisions was so positive, that I decided to become a childbirth educator and doula in 1995 after my 2nd son was born. In 1997, we were surprised with the arrival of our 3rd son who was born at a local birth center. The midwives who helped me birth also helped me realize the power of birth. Our 4th and final son was born in 2002 at home . . . and my love of homebirth and midwifery care was born.

My goal is to practice “natural” and “normal” birth . . . meaning that I strive to help clients have what we call “physiologic birth”. Physiologic birth means we create the environment and support the client in ways that help her body work optimally; we avoid distractions and interruptions that are counterproductive or interfere with the natural production of hormones. We only intervene if an intervention is needed. We are trained to respond to medical emergencies. But, when birth is progressing “normally” and “naturally” we do not interrupt the process.

I LOVE helping women gain the confidence and information they need to experience the transformative journey of birth. I remember how overwhelming (and scary) birth seemed. I can work with you, one-on-one to gain the confidence you need to have a great birth. My goal is to help you have a SAFE, HEALTHY, SATISFYING birth you will CHERISH for a lifetime. Birth Simply. Confidently,
